Shake Em on Down - 1930-1940

One of the most powerful slide guitarists and expressive vocalists in Delta Blues, Bukka White recorded an impressive body of work between 1930 and 1940. This compilation features those early sides; nine 78rpm singles, plus two tracks recorded for the Library Of Congress, in 1939, whilst he was in prison. Over the ensuing decades they have gone on to earn him iconic status, although they were largely ignored the first time around. It was only following his rediscovery in the early 1960s, by which time he was in his mid-fifties, that White's musical career finally took off. His early records started appearing on compilations of vintage Blues recordings, and he began to reach a whole new, young audience. And once he'd begun playing live to that audience, Bukka swiftly established himself as a major player on the Folk/Blues Revival circuit.
